The NWS Science Operations Officer Training Advisory Panel

The National Weather Service Science Operations Officer Training Advisory Panel (SOO TAP) shall provide an effective process by which SOO job-related training needs can be identified, prioritized, and presented to the NWS Field Requirements Group, Training Division, and COMET for implementation, with the overarching goal of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the NWS SOO as a leader in the forecast office.

The COMAP course is designed to increase participants' knowledge of mesoscale meteorology and new observing systems, and to enhance their capabilities in forecasting, leading training programs, and participating in research activities. Taught at the graduate level, it includes case studies to illustrate mesoscale phenomena, displaced real-time (DRT) cases to simulate the forecasting environment, seminars by visiting scientists, discussions of new observing systems, and supervised interactions with local Boulder scientists on independent research projects.
