To support the GFS forecast profile products made available to NWS forecasters this week by Hua-Lu Pan at NCEP and Bob Rozumalski at Comet Branch, I've posted a new version of Bufkit that provides for the visualization of these profiles out to 180 hours. A summary of the new Bufkit functionalities and download instructions can be found here: http://www.wdtb.noaa.gov/resources/projects/BUFKIT/bufkit4.html 2. Additional capabilities in this Bufkit release include: - Dual-display support for the Windows NT, 2000 and XP platforms. - Ability to run under Linux using the WINE emulation package. - Expanded precipiation-type tools that integrate the newest P-Type techniques presented at WDTB's November Winter Weather Workshop. 3. Also available is an updated Graphic User Interface to Bob's Modsnd 2003 package that allows for the forecaster to interactively generate Eta, RUC and GFS profiles. You can download this TCK/TK application that runs in your Modsnd directory here: http://www.wdtb.noaa.gov/resources/projects/BUFKIT/makekit.html 4. Finally, if you want to check out examples of GFS forecast profiles prior to installing Modsnd on your workstation, you can find some at the main Bufkit Web Page: http://www.wdtb.noaa.gov/resources/projects/BUFKIT Just click on "Current Data". Contact me if you have questions concerning this new Bufkit release. Ed Mahoney, Chief Warning Decision Training Branch
