The SOO Science and Training Resource Center Case Study Library (STRC/CSL) serves as the on-line repository for operational data and support documentation for use with training in the WFOs. Its purpose is to provide a means of exchanging materials for training efforts utilizing WES, D2D, and D3D. Trainers are able to select from a collection of peer-reviewed case modules identified by their educational objectives and organized to allow for easy identification so that offices can best meet their particular training needs. The CLS will provide resources for training in a variety of areas, including: Warning decision-making Forecasting techniques The use of operational forecasting tools The use of operational data types Application of scientific principles Experience with specific weather phenomena Data for case study research projects Offices are encouraged to submit training materials to meet the above objectives. A peer-review process utilizing NWS SOO expertise has been instituted to insure that the modules maintain a high level of quality in terms of scientific content and applicability to operational forecasting. Acknowledgment of individuals will be given to for those case modules included in the CSL. All cases currently on the CSL have been migrated to DVD and localization updated for the most recent version of WES (version 1.2, OB1). That's right, toss your WES case CDs out (recycle where appropriate) and order updated releases on DVD, complete with new a install GUI. No longer do you have to sit patiently feeding the seemingly endless stream of CDs into your reader only to encounter I/O errors. Now most cases fit on a single DVD! Reports of computer abuse are expected to fall to near pre-Microsoft levels. REQUEST: I need your cases! Of course, the CSL can not be a success without the support of the NWS Regional SSDs and field offices. Over the next few months to years you'll be receiving requests for cases to add to the CSL. Keep in mind that the data you give today will help nurture the forecasters of tomorrow. By contributing, you will be pseudo-deified and have your name(s) emblazoned upon the DVD cases and discs. Your work may influence the training and operations in every office. Visit the SOO/STRC for much more information and to order case(s). http://soostrc.comet.ucar.edu Bob +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Robert A.
