Date: Fri, 5 Dec 2003 06:19:20 -0700 (MST) From: Bob Rozumalski Subject: Now Available: NAWIPS 5.6.L Greetings All, I have placed an update "L" to the NAWIPS package on the SOO/STRC ftp server in the nawips directory. This release replaces version "j" that has been available since April. Just as with NAWIPS 5.6j release this version will run under 24-bit TrueColor. That's correct 24-bit TrueColor. No more color allocation problems. No more dealing with configuring your system one way to run NAWIPS/GARP/Gempak and another for D2D. Both packages can be run on the same system without worrying about swapping out X configuration files! No more having to limit yourself to a few window managers and themes! There are a few other minor changes, but none more important than the one above. For those interested I have attached the nawips 5.6.L release notes. TO INSTALL: The upgrade is painless, and you can keep your current NAWIPS around if you'd like. This is what you do: log on to the machine as user "gempak" or whatever name you are using for nawips. % cd $NAWIPS/.. ( probably /usr1 ) If nawips is a directory then: % mv nawips nawips56j (or nawips56c, etc.) If nawips is a link % rm -f nawips Then: % mkdir nawips56l % ln -s nawips56l nawips % cd $NAWIPS (You will now be in /usr1/nawips56l) Now download the following files from the soostrc (soosac) ftp server in the nawips directory: a. nawips56l_soostrc.tar.Z b. nawips56l_binary_linux.tar.Z or nawips56l_binary_hpux.tar.Z Then unpack: % zcat nawips56l_soostrc.tar.Z | tar xvf - % zcat nawips56l_binary_linux.tar.Z | tar xvf - Log out and back in Make sure the METDAT environmental variable points to your data. For example, if your met data are under /usr1/metdat: % cd $NAWIPS % rmdir metdat % ln -s /usr1/metdat metdat Remember to move your previous modsnd directory to the new installation Note you may have to modify your Garp_defaults file and/or copy over your fdf files. That's it - painless, I hope. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Robert A.
