N-AWIPS TEXT PRODUCTS DISPLAY PROGRAM (NWX) Training Exercise

GOAL:   To learn about some of the features of the NWX Program.     

(NOTE:  If the NWX program is currently executing, exit the program. Then 
start the program again, so the program uses its default settings).


1)   Execute the NWX Program by clicking on the NWX icon. Three windows will 
     appear, namely the MENUTOP, MAPTOP and TEXTTOP windows.


2)   Select and display a State Forecast product.

      a)   Click on DATA_TYPE in the MENUTOP window (upper left), and while 
           holding down the left mouse button, move the cursor to STATE_FCST
           and release the button. Individual locations represented by small
           diamonds will appear on the map in the MAPTOP window.

      b)   Click on the Memphis location in the MAPTOP window. The State 
           Forecast will appear in the TEXTTOP window (right side of screen).


3)   Zoom in on the Tennessee area to more easily select a location, and 
     display the NGM MOS Guidance for Nashville only, and then for all the 
     locations in Tennessee.

      a)   Click on DATA_TYPE in the MENUTOP window, and then click on NGM_MOS.

      b)   With the mouse cursor in the MAPTOP window, click and hold down the 
           right mouse button, and draw a box that encompasses the Tennessee area and 
           release the button. The Tennessee area will now be enlarged.

      c)   Click on the Nashville location in the MAPTOP window. The NGM MOS 
           Guidance for Nashville will appear in the TEXTTOP window. 

      d)   Click on SELECT_BY in the MENUTOP window, and then click on STATE.

      e)   Click on any location in Tennessee in the MAPTOP window. The NGM 
           MOS Guidance for all the locations will be displayed together in
           the TEXTTOP window.



4)   Finally, use the scroll bar in the TEXTTOP window to view the last NGM MOS
     GUIDANCE product, and then go back and view the first product again.

      a)   Click on the scroll bar on the right side of the TEXTTOP window, 
           and while holding down the left mouse button, drag the scroll bar
           to the bottom of the window and release the button. The last
           product will now be in view.

      b)   Click on the scroll bar again in the TEXTTOP window and drag the 
           scroll bar to the top of the window and release the button. The
           first product in the window will now be in view again.

      c)   Reset the map area to the United States by clicking on MAP_AREA in 
           the MENUTOP window, and then clicking on US.


5)   Exit the NWX Program.

      a)   Click on EXIT in the MENUTOP window. 

      b)   Confirm that you want to quit the program by clicking on OK in the 
           EXIT CONFIRMATION window.
